Musings of the Romantics

Excuse us while we do some testing on this blog - this is only a test blog.

One lovely fall afternoon we shot a segment with Marianne Mancusi and Liz Maverick as they interviewed one of their favorite authors - Alisa Kwitney. Alisa, an editor at Vertigo, ‘the mature dark/fantasy imprint’ of DC Comics, has a new romance paranormal series soon to be unveiled. You may know her from her books Sex as a Second Language or Flirting With Cars. Since Alisa has been an editor for one of the most acclaimed comic book titles of the ’90’s we thought there would be no better place for us to interview her than in the world’s premiere comic book store - Midtown Comics. Yes, it’s a fabulous retreat for lovers of comics located near Times Square in Manhattan. But, they don’t only sell comics, we found books there too. Books by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Laruel K. Hamilton, our own Liz Maverick and yes, Alisa’s books were there too.

It was an interesting shoot - between the 20 something comic book fans playing with the Godzilla toy that lights up and roars (very loudly), the punk rock music and the sales manager using the loud speaker to ask the sales clerk to find the newest issue of X-Men - we had an opportunity to ask Alisa about her new paranormal series.

Alisa has an amazing sense of humor and like her books, she likes to walk on the wild side. You might ask yourself what comic books and romance novels have in common. Well Liz and Marianne asked Alisa and you’ll have to watch the video to find out.

What about you - comic books and romance novels? What’s the connection?

You all know that Maria, Kim and I have a great love of romance novels.  We can’t get enough of them!  So this month we decided to have a "Start Your Book" forum on our message board.  However, Kim got a little carried away - yikes!  She had so many ideas that we had to break the forum into sub-forums.  She also invited some very special authors to participate - to tell their stories about how they got published and answer questions about the writing process.  She’s invited:

  • Lori Avocato
  • Michelle Bardsley
  • Elizabeth Boyle
  • Terri Brisbin
  • Anna Campbell
  • Dakota Cassidy
  • Sheila Goss
  • Kristen Higgins
  • Eloisa James
  • Katherine Caskie
  • Joyceln Kelly
  • Edith Layton
  • Lindsay McKenna
  • Pamela Palmer
  • Jenna Petersen
  • Caridad Pinero
  • Terri Ridgell
  • Gena Showalter
  • Kathryn Smith
  • Jennifer St.Giles
  • Lori Wilde
  • Franzeca Drouin (researcher)

Wheew!  That’s quite a list.  Yes - we’re going to have a month long ‘workshop’ and you’re all invited.

Have you ever thought of putting pen to paper and writing a romance novel?

It’s finally spring - time to open the windows and let the fresh air in.  The days are longer, the sun shines brighter, and everywhere I go I can smell fresh cut grass - yes the long winter is over.  It’s a time of re-birth and new beginnings. A time for resolutions. I know, most people make their resolutions in January with the start of a new year; not me.  It’s dark and cold and dreary in January - conducive to hibernating, but not new beginnings.  I always wait until spring time to make a fresh start and proclaim my resolutions.  I feel inspired by the tiny buds in the trees and the flocks of birds flying back home.  This year I’m feeling particularly inspired and so I resolve to:

  1. Clean my oven.
  2. Stop putting "wake up" on my To Do List just so I can have something to cross off.
  3. File my papers in my filing cabinet and not on top of my filing cabinet.
  4. Be kind to people who drive me crazy.
  5. Learn a new language.

What are your spring time resolutions?
